For 12C & 12D students...
Now that you've completed your Practical Productions, we would like you to reflect on the whole process. This will allow us to think about how you (and future students) can best be helped in the future. In particular, we need to evaluate the impact of using blogs when preparing for coursework.
Therefore, could you please answer the following questions as fully as possible, providing concrete examples where you can. Remember to put your name at the end of your posting so we can check off who has completed the task and reward the most detailed responses (credits at the very least). The deadline for completion is Monday 15th May...
1. How easy was it to set up your Practical Production blog and to get used to posting things on it? Were you given enough support in doing it? What other help would have been useful?
2. How did the blog help with your research, preparation and planning? Did the blog motivate you to do more and better research? How? Why?
3. In what ways was the blog a useful tool for keeping in touch and communicating with group members?
4. How often (honestly!) do you check the Macguffin blog? (Remember, it should be at least twice/week).
5. Was it useful being able to see and access everyone else’s research and planning through their blogs?
6. How do you feel about the fact that your teacher can keep a close check on your progress through accessing your blog? Is it too intrusive and controlling or is it encouraging and supportive?
7. How useful have the comments been that you received from…a. Macguffin, b. other students.
8. How would you evaluate the quality of your blog? What could you have done better?
9. Do you think you will get a better final grade for your practical production through having used a blog?
10. Which are the best three blogs? Why?
11. Do you think next year’s Year 12s would benefit from setting up a Practical Production blog?
12. Are there any negative aspects to preparing for the Practical Production using a blog?
13. What could be done to improve teaching and/or learning in future through blogs?
14. Are you happy that we are planning to use blogs for your 3000-word Independent Study coursework in Year 13 (that you'll be working on individually)?
15. Overall, are you pleased that we used blogs? Has it been interesting and enjoyable? Why? Why not?

1. Navdeep set the blog up, but it was well easy to post and what not, sometimes putting pictures up was annoying!
2. The blog did help with research because you could post the links to trailers and it would be easier for you. The blog didnt really motivate me, it was just a place to post stuff (sometimes random stuff)
3. It was good when it came to research because each person would do thier own, it was good to see who researched what.
4. Macguffin was like a phase, it was cool to begin with and now to be honest there is something new once a month. During the production i would visit it once a day, but now..lets say its not once/twice a week
5. Yes it was useful to see other peoples research/planning. It almost motivated you if you thought your blog wasnt as good.
6. Teachers being able to see the blogs is good, they can offer advice and stuff.
7. Receiving comments from both Macguffin and other students was brilliant. Personally i remember doing much more research because people suggested that. Sometimes it was patronising to see people commenting on having decent acting.
8. The Guilt was an awesome blog! ha! um...dont think there was much to improve on
9. i dont think this blog would effect the final production grade
10. Obviously i'm guna say "The Guilt"
"Teenagers: Behind The Scenes" was a good blog, a lot of updating and research.
"L.I.A.R" was ace! good updates and research
11. Using blogs was good, i think the next year12s will also feel the same.
12. Its better than writing on paper that you will eventually lose, and research was much easier to do. So, no, no negative aspects.
13. It fine the way it is.
14. Sharing a blog was more fun, kinda not looking forward to having my own blog. But i'm glad we still get to use the blogs in yr13
15. Using blogs was brilliant, had quite a bit of fun using them. And The Guilt even had an international fan..not many of the other groups can say that! woot!

1. The idea of creating a blog to display our practical production information was good. It was easy to set up as there are many links and instructions. The idea of posting up research and producing a dairy was a good idea.
2. Planing, layout and customising the blog was good and preparation and planning was easy to do as the process was simple. The blog motivated me and allowed me to express my opinion on some views. The diary also allows the teachers to know what pace the group is working at. Access to the internet was easy and this motivates me to post up comments.
3. The blog is a good communicational method as we can interact with the teachers and recieve comments from other groups. This helps my group to make minor improvements.
4. I had checked the macguffin website once a week, as i had to make comments and read the information my group had added.
5. It was useful to see all the blogs as this helps us to improve on our blog. Looking at everyones blogs also helped us to structure our blog and put relavant information relating to our practical production.
6. I liked the fact our teachers had reviewed our blogs from time to time as this helps them to keep an eye on our performance. It encourages us to improve our blog and present it to an higher level.
7. The comments were useful as everyone was nice!!, they told us on how to improve, and we carried out the improvements by adding more pictures.
8. We could have done alot of things better by adding more pictures, videos and information. Overall the experience was new so the blog was good as we had full information on the subject and diaries.
9. Yes i believe we can get a better grade by the blog as the diaries inform the teachers how we perfomed. The diaries also inform the teachers what footage was shot and how the experienece is going. The blog also reveals how much input is put in by the group members.
10. I really don't know as there are many but if i had to pick it would be teenagers behind the scenes as there were many videos, pictures and information
11. yes blogs would benefit the year 12s!!!!!!!!1
12. No negative comments
13. Mr Bush could have clearly explained how to put up a video!!!
14. Yes it would be useful as the year 13s blogs are lookin good!
15. It has been a new experience but an interesting one!. I have enjoyed posting comments and looking at other peoples blogs. Overall i am pleased with the blogs as the experience of creating our own one was enjoyable!!.
Finally!!

1. Setting up the blog in the first place was quite easy and even though we forgot the password and had to set up a new blog it was simple. We got enough help in the beginning to get on with it by ourselves.
2. I thought that the blog was really good for looking at other peoples research as well as ours coz people doing similar things had similar research and that helped.
3. The blog was used mainly by us as a group together or in pairs so we didn't really need it for communication purposes.
4. Not much recently, unless we have homework, but during the Practical Production it was twice a week or more.
5. It was definitley really useful to see what other people were doing. We could share research and also know we're on track.
6. I think it's a good idea as long as Mr Bush checks it regularly! It's good getting feedback from teachers and other students.
7. The comments from Macguffin really helped in making our production better and also the sugestions from other people were really useful because it allowed us to see someone elses opinion on what we were doing.
8. I think the blog is really good with lots of detail, but we got off to a bit of a slow start and in the beginning the posts were not by the whole group.
9. It helped to get better research and also the feedback was really important so yeah.
10. The blogs were all really good once we got going but the best three were LIAR, Teenagers and The Guilt because they were really informative, up-todate and with loads of pictures.
11. Yup.
12. The extra work and remembering to update the blog every time you do something.
13. Maybe more regualr checks and comments from Macguffin...?
14. Yes, we can see what stage everyones at and keep track and also keep updating the essays.
15. The blogs were a really good idea and helped us keep things in order and let Mr Bush know what we were doing especially since we were editing at home. It also allowed us to get really useful comments and let us know what everyones up to.

ermmm let me fink... well i thought it woz quite simple, an afta a while i did sort of get used to postin up stuff, although i woz concentratin on ma actual production. But it is a very usful sort of diary, so wen i look back on it, it helps me keep track of wot im doin, an other people. At first the blog didnt reli motivate me 2 do more research, but afta a while, wen i put up afew posts, i did feel a bit more motivated!Coz wen i lookd back on it, it lookd gd, lol. I fink the blogs gd coz u can look at others to see how dey r doin, an i can help u wid urs. The fact that we could send comments to each other through the blog woz also a gd idea, coz u no wot u are doin an wot ur group memba is too.
Before i did cheak out the blog regularly but it truthly sort of went down hill, but i fink dats coz we woz workin reliiiii hard on our practical production. I think it woz gdgd 2 look at every 1 elses coz i could get an idea of wot their doin an how their doin. Its interestin to find out wot their production is bout 2. i fink its a gd idea for the teacher 2 cheak out wot were up 2 coz dey give back gd feedback, i dont fink its controllin, just as long as they onli give some advice an not go ova the top! The comments we received from every1 woz reli helpful, as we got an idea of wot they thought etc, they all gave gdgd feedback 2.
i think our blog woz gd but wasnt long enough, coz as i sed, we were reli concentratin more on the production. but i fink if we did it would hav helped us abit more.
Im not sure, i dont reli fink so, but it woz still a great help. i think the best three blogs are Gahoongstaz coz it looks sooooooooo pink an detailed, which makes it interestin 2 read. An take it to the floor is reli gd to coz its also got alot of pics, color and detail. Teenagers:behind the scenes is also for the same reasons!!
i fink it would be gd for the nxt yr 12s to hav blogs coz i fink we all benifited from dem in some way or another. I not think there r any negative aspects, but that it may take up some of ur time, which u could b doin some of ur practical production, although i would rather write it up on a blog then on paper. i dont fink nothin should reli have 2 change! usin blogs for the ye 13 coursework is a gd idea as i sed its better than writin it up on paper. overall i am very pleased that i used these blogs as they helped me organise all ma things, although our blog aint that long.

It was pretty easy to set up the blogs, and once you get started posting.. u kinda cant stop. Everyone started to compete near the end.. which all motivated us to make our blogs more interesting etc. We were shown hoe to create the blogs, and then it was all up to us. I think it was pretty gud as we had to take responsiblity for creating, and decorating the blogs.
2. The blogs forced us to think. To think about our whole production, and what we wanted to includein it.. as we had to write about what we did what we filmed and what our overall aim was constantly. because we were informing others we had to take every little detail in to account.
It motivated us to do better research as everyone wanted their own blog to come across the most appealing etc.
3. The blogs were also a useful tool for communication as we were allowed to post comments etc.. and always know what was going on with everyother group. Thids helpd us understand their own aims, and offer comments etc.
4.I don't reali chek the media macguffin blog, only when i was producing caught up.sorri!
5.Being able to see someone else's research reali does help inspire your own ideas and thoughts, it motivates yu to work hard as you are able to recognise the standards of work being produced. Obviousli this motivates you to also want to produce the same high standards.
6.I think its fine.. as the comments posted onli help you make ur own production better.
7.The comments have been very useful.. people provide alternative ideas etc.. which is reali wikd. mcguffin jus tells u to keep working hard etc.. which sometimes you need to be reminded to do!
8. I think my own blog quality was gudd... we aimed to inform and attract attention through pictures, colours etc.. but it wasnt very long!
9.Our blog helped us organise our production.. thi8s may have made our grade better.. but not that much.
10. Ashley n nathans, Gahoongsta, and Take It To The Floor.. were all reali wikd blogs. They all used to colours and pictures, and covered an interesting topic.
11.Yes
12.You tend to concentrate more on producing the blog.. then actually recording.!
13.nuthinn.. its fine hw it is.
14.Yeh.. it will be easier than writing it all up on paper.. plus the teacher can constantly post comments etc.
15.Yes.. very interesting!

One of my favourite productions was Bullicide, this was because it was a serious film and there was good acting.
The mise-en-scene was good; the facial expressions were realistic like what you would expect to see if that incident of bullying and his dad not paying attention to him had happened in real life. The acting was second to none it was so good.
The lighting was also good use. They used, high-key lighting in their production and they also used a bit of top lighting.
In their production, they used Diegetic sound; you could hear the T.V in the backround when Baljit’s mates visited his house to check-up on him.
The cinematography used is brilliant. They use a variety of close-ups on the subject to show his emotions and this is also used so that the audience also can relate to Baljit’s emotions. I also think that they used a few fades.
The editing was not really recognisable, but in Media Awards booklet it says they went through 8 tapes, which means that they must’ve gone through a lot of editing.
Another of my favourite productions was a life of grime, this is because it was interesting and this production also had a lot of stereotypes of black teenagers.
The mise-en-scene was good; I liked the way they had shot certain scenes, like for example in the Alley way when there was a rap scene going on.
The lighting was good use in his film, they had used low-key lighting I think because they had shot some scenes in an alley way.
They used Diegetic sound in the production and they also used parallel sound. The parallel sound was used as a stereotype in my opinion; this is because every time there is a teenage black boy in the film the audience associate them to be rapping and a gangster. The use of both diegetic and parallel sound came to good use in this production.
The cinematography used was good. As I said before, I thought the alley-way scene was good and the still image of Ashley standing on the street was also good. Another good use of the cinematography was when they used the close-up on the woman who I think was Ashley’s mum. They also used a close-up on Nathan when he was rapping. Also in this production they used some fades.
